Write the assumptions of McGregor’s Theory?
You think that they see their work as a burden and they come here only for money and pass their entire day like gup shup etc.
So, now we are going to discuss ‘X’ and ‘Y’ assumptions about your employees or your team members can have significant influence on how you manage them.
In 1960, An American Management Professor Mr. Douglas Murray McGregor has developed two contrasting theories in his book The Human Side of Enterprise. He explained how managers of an organization motivate their team to meet the organization’s goals and this theory called Theory ‘X’ and
Theory ‘Y’.
And we can see that nowadays these theories are very important for any organization which we will discuss in detail in this article. As we have already discussed in this Article Mr. McGregor has first explained Theory X and Theory Y in his book “The Human Side of Enterprise”
Theory X (Authoritarian) according to McGregor, If you believed that your team members dislike their work and they have no motivation to doing their work or job so you should take this approach to force
your people to doing their jobs and usually it seems that this type of approach followed by those managers its called micromanaging peoples work to ensure that this work has been done or not.
Theory Y (Participative) in this approach it is just opposite if you believed that your team is very supportive and enjoys their work and ready to face new challenge and doing their work as ownership behaviour so its called Theory Y.
Above of those approaches you have followed which would be a Theory X or Theory Y, the approach that you opt it will be have significant impact simultaneously on your team to motivate them.
So, it is totally depending that on your perception of what you think and how to motivate your team.
